Looking for some reliable daily power from my FE. I have a bone stock 390 in a 72 Camper Special. I was thinking of just throwing on a 500 cfm holley in place of my autolite 2100. Any thoughts on this from someone who has had it? I have a four barrel manifold as well and could put one on if everyone thinks that would be much better than the holley. I was going to use a stock manifold and a 1.12 or the old 600 autolite 4100. There is a 1.19 on ebay right now, but the reserve is 450. would like to have it though. I was going to order some Thorley headers and put in a cam of your guy's recommendation. I really don't want to change anything but the carb, manifold, headers, cam and probably an oil pump while I have the engine out changing the rear main and clutch, etc. I find it easier to just yank the engine so I can see what I am doing, particularly when changing exhaust. So, any Holley two barrel owners out there? thanks, bryan
I don't know what your budget's like but if you want a great bolt on package you can't beat Edelbrock's Performer package for the 390. You'll get a balanced combination of manifold, cam, and carb. Add some headers and you're done. I did this with my '72 CS (first upgrade) and was amazed at the improvement. Your truck will pull like a train off the line all the way to about 4500 RPM; very nice for day to day driving, towing, etc.
I'm going through the same thought process with my 360, and if you end up staying with the 2-bbl (or going to Edelbrock), I might ask if you'd be willing to part with the 4-bbl manifold? Either way, I'm interested in what you end up doing... and I'm in Lincoln.
Well, i still have not decided but if you are in Lincoln i have a few different manifolds. I am sure we can work something out. i am waiting for someone with a 500 two barrel that likes it real well to give me some feedback. thanks, bryan
