I need a new bed for my 84 f-350, and what i'm wondering is, would it be better to try and find a bed or make one. If making one, what materials should I use. (wolmanized board?) If anyone knows where I can get an 8' bed with little or no rust let me know too.
Hey there84f350 and welcome to FTE! You should be able to bolt on any bed from 80' - 90', so look in your area for something in that era. It'll probably be about $800.00 with little rust and $1200.00+ clean.
If you are considering a flat-bed, you may want to look around in some rural areas that may have a rig out by a barn or garage with a bad engine or they're waiting to get repaired.
I'm not sure what type of hauling you are going to be doing, if any at all. I was able to remove the bed of my 76' 100 without ant tools, whatsoever, it was so rusted. I threw a couple of pallets on the frame, just to cover the fuel tank. NY says the tank can't be exposed from above. I drove it like that for a year or so..
Home-made flatbeds can be quite an expense themselves.
I've done one with 1"x 2" x 6' Cherry Trim Molding from a commercial job I was on, and another I used pressure treated wood. It cost almost $500.00 when I was done.
Good luck in your search... I'll talk to you later....
I don't know where you are, but in Northern Calif there are a few wreckers that have beds. In the bay area they run 1,000 & up but i just found a 92-96 short bed w/dual tank including tail gate for $450-625 in Sacramento. I saw longbeds there too.
