I've always wanted a super duty and the 2017 has really grabbed my attention. I have been driving a 2004 F-150 since I bought it new in Dec. 2003. I don't need a super duty, but I want one. I don't tow, I don't have a 5th wheel, I don't have a boat, etc. I live the in the suburbs and the most this truck will likely see is maybe hauling my GT500 to the drag strip once a year, getting some mulch and landscaping materials, and going to Home Depot for some light building materials. The rest of the time I'll be hauling air.
So, with that as my backdrop, here is what I'd like to buy:
Seems like a lot of money for something you don't need or require - but if it is purely a "want" then does it matter? The 2011-2016 Super Duties don't ride as good as the F-150 - IMO. I suspect the 2017 Super duty won't ride as well as an F-150 either mainly due to the heavier springs. Go drive one down some typical roads you travel and decide for yourself.
I live in the burbs (but have a 5th wheel that is heavily used) and I commute to the office in my 2011 Super Duty daily. I have owned trucks all my life (former farm boy here), so I like the ride and I don't expect it to ride like a luxury vehicle. My 2011 (FX4/CC/Short Bed Diesel) gets about 15.5 around town. Best vehicle I have ever owned!
Hey man it's your hard earned money so get what you want! I have a 2011 F-150 that bought new in 2011 and it's more truck than I need, It almost never hauls or tows, just drives me back and fourth to work and to the grocery store. But I love it.
And on that note, I love the new Super Dutys as well...If I were gonna buy a truck today, it'd be a 4X4 Supercab F-250 6.2L. So I say more power to ya!
Yes it is fine as a daily driver. I don't haul anything and went from a 2015 F150 to a 2017 F450 and the f450 drives as well as the F150. Most people don't need a super duty but have one. Certainly people don't need to lift their trucks and put bigger tires but those trucks are all over the road. If you want it then get a F350.
you could get the 6.2 and save about 8k, since you dont need it . That motor will be more than enough for your needs. Unless of course the diesel part is the main reason you want one.
The only word of caution I have for you with the 6.7 and not towing is that if you don't get on the highway much in your daily drive then plan on taking special trips to clean the DPF every 200 or so miles. Had to do that with my 2012 when I lived in town. If that doesn't bother you, go for it.
People generally don't get what they need for a vehicle. If you want it and it works financially, go for it. Who needs a Shelby GT-350, a Raptor, or a Harley? These vehicles are for enjoyment.
Most people don't need a half ton either and could get by with a front wheel drive car and a folding trailer from harbor freight.
I do agree with skipping the diesel if you mostly do short trips.
I find myself making up silly excuses to drive this truck and I don't expect that to ever end.
I'm with you. My current truck is at 236,000 miles and I still make excuses to go use up the fuel. Love driving my truck, still, but wait till the new one gets here!
If you are looking for a daily driver and not towing anything big, I would look at the F-250 2WD 3.31 gears (6.7L). That would give you the look and a much better daily ride than a F-350. Also as said if you dont have a lot of highway driving, be prepared to get on it and hit the gas for those regens with the diesel or go with the 6.2L gas.
Though if I were in your boat, I would take the new 2017 F-150 with 3.5L ecoboost and 10 speed 😉

Why would a 3.31 F250 give you a much better daily ride than a 3.55 F350? It seems that they'd be nearly identical in ride and mileage.
