I've always owned Jeeps, but am considering switching to trucks! I'm considering a used '06 F150 4WD FX4 listed locally with 85k miles for $11,000.
What common things should I be looking for if take a look at it?
Would you recommend an '06, and what price would you pay at this mileage?
I've been doing research, and see that there are issues with the two piece plugs in the 5.4L 3V V8. I'm not a heavy user, I'd occasionally pull an enclosed trailer at 4-5k lbs. Thanks!
I just got back in the F150 game after owning several diesels and a couple mid-size trucks. Just from the little I've seen and already experienced with my own truck here's the short list:
- 3V cam phasers - ticking
- spark plug issues - breaking off/seized in head
- transmissions issues with torque converter and #9 bearing (output shaft)
- drive shaft issues (non serviceable u-joints and carrier bearing)
- power rear windows
I've owned my truck less than 3wks and already done a rear axle seal and bearing. My power sliding rear window has stopped, cruise doesn't work and my torque converter is whining up until it locks up. Not the warm fuzzy feeling I was hoping for
Sorry to hear about your problems Sam. I just got my first F150, a 2008 model. One tick I can live with. Needs new rotors, calipers and pads in back but that's all.
