I have a 78' with a 351M right now it idles like crap. So I gave it a tune up tightened the carb and it still runs like crap. Sometimes it will die while idling, when driving it will run fine but sometimes the engine just cuts out like its missing spark but will pick back up. Then it got so bad where I couldn't make it 100 ft. without dying. So I replaced the control module and everything was fixed (the guy at Autozone said it was fine). Three weeks later the same symptoms occur I replace the module again, days later problem returning, are theese just crappy control modules or is something making them go bad. I live in St. Louis and its like 95 everyday with a heat index of 105 could it be the heat or vapor lock?
Are you putting the control module in a place where it gets adiquate ventalation? It does sound like it may be overheating but given the tempature it could also be the fuel leaning out because of the hot air from the intake.
