My 93 F150 2wd is experiencing a dragging brake on the right side. I have seen posts mentioning dragging brakes, but no reasoning as to why or how to fix it. I am in need of a brake job anyway so I was just wondering if doing a complete tear down an rebuild would cure the problem? Thanks.
I have a 92 F-150 2wd and am having the same problem. Mine has been dragging bad. I started by changing the caliper, that didn't do it. A friend of mine has a 92 explorer and he said when he had that problem he changed the hose and cured it, said over time the fluid brakes down the rubber hose and can create a blockage, not allowing it to release. I changed the hose this am and it is working so far, but time will tell. If you haven't yet considered this you might, who knows it might work. The parts store also told me that they sell alot of hoses on 8 yr plus ford trucks. Maybe a defect, don't know but it might work, give it a shot, hoses are around $20. Hope this helps.
I would suggest doing the rebuild, and make sure you buy some new anti rattle clips, and new guide pins. It’s only like a buck a clip, and pin.
Also, clean all the contact points with a wire brush or wire wheel, and ford recommends you use dielectric grease on the contact points, and pins instead of grease.
Oh have you rotors turned or buy new ones.
Thanks for the suggestions I will do all of them. I didn't include in my post that it was a rear brake dragging. Anyway I am going to completely go through the front and rear, total rebuild. I was just wondering if there was a specific problem with dragging brakes on these trucks, thanks again!
I had a problem with a rear brake dragging, when I finally got a round tuit, I found that the left rear brake shoe had separated from it's backing and was mucking up the works inside the drum. The factory shoes on my 1996 were apparently bonded (i.e. no rivets) to the backing plates. The autozone replacements were riveted. Go figure.
