Had a dark area on the left side of the instrument panel (near fuel qty indicator) on my 97 Expedition. Followed the good info on this forum to re-install all five 194LL backlighting bulbs with new ones. The left side of the panel is now illuminated well. However, there is a zone of dim/dark in the upper-mid area directly above the speedometer. Can't seem to figure it out. All 5 bulbs seem to be working (I've tested by looking at the back side of the panel when powered up). The dimmer switch isn't in great shape, but seems to dim all vehicle lights as it should. What am i missing?
Answered my own question. Discovered 2 smaller bulbs on the back panel labeled "ILL". Replaced those with Sylvania# 37 bulbs and all lighting illuminated as it should.

#37 cross-references to #74 as well. I swapped all of mine to white LEDs, turns the gauges blue at night. HVAC controls are #194s as well and look good with white LEDs
Travis, did you swap to LED only the five #194's and the two #74's?
Yes, I did all of the gauge illumination, as well as the HVAC controls (all 3 sets) with white LEDs. It makes the gauges/controls show up blue instead of the indoglo-ish green. Looks sharp too.
