Engine mounts

Hi guys got a 351 Clevo in f100 2wd. I need to replace both engine mounts just wandering if this is possible without removing engine? And if it is possible, can u loosen engine mounts from underneath and Jack up engine with a 3 tonne hydraulic teolley Jack from the sump? Just not sure if the sump is strong enough to Jack up engine ? Thanks

2 side and one in the rear under the tranny. You can jack the engine up, just make sure you use a piece of wood that goes out to the edges of the oil pan to distribute the weight to the edges where the pan is strong. Pushing up in the middle of the pan will bend it.

Also make sure the fan clears the radiator & shroud. Check to make sure nothing else is going to be close when motor is jacked up.

Yes, the fan will most likely hit the shroud.

I'll just unbolt the fan or shroud, were else is a strong point to Jack from? Is it possible to Jack up from the harmonic balancer? Also how high roughly do I need to Jack it up? 2 inches?

I have used the balancer as long as it's just the 1 end of the motor you are lifting.

As for how high? As high as needed. Thinking a little more than 2 inches maybe 4?

I've used the balancer to lift the front of the engine but I don't like to. Just be careful so you don't bend the crank snout.

Here's my experience jacking up a 351W. Procedures for your motor should be similar. I lifted from under the oil pan. I used a thick block of wood with a layer of styrofoam on top to conform to the shape of the oil pan.

That whole write up was to replace the oil pan gasket, so obviously skip those parts.

No. Too much weight hanging out the front. Piece of wood on the pan always has worked for me.

+1 on that. Look how close the bellhousing is to the crossmember under the transmission. That's where the aft mount is located. This is your pivot point to lift the engine sticking way out front. There's just so much leverage. You'd probably break the aft mount and lift the transmission instead of lifting the engine.

The oil pan has a large flat bottom put the wood between the jack and that large flat bottom.
The wood will spread the weight of the motor across the full bottom of the pan.
Go easy at first to make sure you have nothing holding the motor in place thatwould put more weight on the oil pan.
