Is PCM Chip Memory a Real thing?

Is the PCM having a memory of the Chip setting it was last on before you pull the chip out of the PCM a real thing? Just wondering if this is a real thing and if so how long does it stay on the PCM? Also does it remember shift points as well? Im getting ride of my Chip and I took it out with it on Economy mode. No HP gain, just earlier shift points. Am I going to have to deal with early shift points, and should I just put the chip back in and set it to a different setting then pull it?

Ts, hydra, and f chips stop affecting your truck when you remove them.

Edge and other similar programmers that plug into the obd port flash the computer so they have to be reverted to stock
