Unhappy Help - Intermittent Fuel Pump - E350

Hello All,

I am searching for help on my van - I have an '96 E350 with about 56K miles. It recently (last 2 mo or so) began to intermittently not start. It would crank but the fuel pump would not run. I was able to rap on the bottom of the tank and get the pump to run. I changed the pump and it has been fine for several weeks.

Yesterday it did it again. First thing in the morning my wife was going to take the kids to school - crank but no start. She found a ride and got back about an hour later. Tried it again - same thing.

I made arrangements to leave work at lunch to come home and check it. Called to let her know and she had tried it again and it worked fine. I got home and it has been working just fine ever since.

I have looked it over very well - checked as many of the wiring connections as I can find. Reseated the fuses and relays - all of this without finding anything suspicious.

I need suggestions on this - my wife is very stressed since it is working and I was unable to find anything definite. She is afraid that it will quit on her in rush hour traffic or something.

Any and all thoughts, ideas, suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks, Terry
