towing limit clarification
I know very little of this and I've spoken to a few individuals with varying results. My Ford dealership said "no problem, you can tow up to 6700#!" That doesn't seem correct to me. A local, supposedly "knowledgeable" car repair person told me that I was an idiot for buying the smallest V6 engine I could have possibly found and "it will tow pretty much nothing- congratulations." An RV service provider told me that all 1/2 ton pickups will tow 5000#. That seems a much too general statement. And the camper dealership said, "No problem!" (of course.)
I see something in the owner's manual that says the bumper has a trailer weight of 5000# and a tongue weight of 500#, yet in another area, depending on rear axel ratio (which I have no significant knowledge of) the maximum trailer weight is either 2000# or 3300#. I have absolutely no knowledge as to the two different pieces of information.
So, please forgive my ignorance, I need some help and clarification. I can't afford a new truck as well as the camper. (The Trailmanor is fairly hefty in price.) I gave some thought to trading in my F150, yet this truck is 3 1/2 years old and has had absolutely no trouble whatsoever and who knows what trouble may come with a used trade-in.
Or, is there something I can do with my F150 V6 that will make this work? (Unlikely?)
Any thoughts and/or suggestions would be very welcome. (This is also the first time I've ever "posted" so pardon my ignorance if I didn't do this quite correctly.)
It looks like 3600 if you have the 3.55 rearend. If not you are out of luck.
