Just bought an 02 Eddie Bauer Explorer with V8 engine. Need to program keypad. Owner's manual says code taped on computer module but unable to locate module. Anyone know where it is?
Late build models have a central security module located behing the Right side C pillar quarter trim panel, just back of the door opening.
The early models had it behind the quarter panel on the left side of the vehicle, just forward of the stowage compartment. It was a RAP module.
If you just bought it go back to the salesman and have him get thier service department to pull it up with NGS scan tool. Wont take them a couple minutes and you wont break anything doing it.
Thanks for replys. Bought the vehicle used from a Dodge dealer so they don't know squat. Will check location behind C pillar since the 02 doesn't have an access door on driver's side. Thanks
I just found mine on a '02 Mountaineer. Pull the trim panel off where the top of the shoulder harness slide adjustment is for the right rear seat. (middle seat if you have 3 seats). Look down into the adjoining trim peace and you will see the control module. It sits in a bracket so you can pull it up a little to see the sticker. This sticker has all the part numbers and manufacturing text on it also. Look for a 5 digit number kind of in the middle of the right side of the sticker. It is about the only number on there that does not also contain alpha characters. IT IS NOT REAL OBVIOUS! But it worked for me.
Thanks Gib. I will try that today. The local L-M dealer told me yesterday that it was "a black box next to the fuse box"----wrong. Said they were "too busy to pull the code with their equipment"---but before he told me that he asked where I bought the vehicle, which happened to be the Dodge dealer.
