I just replaced my spark plugs today with some new autolites. Just wanted to show yall my old motorcrafts. I have no idea when the owner before me put these in but they look pretty old and what not. Lot of carbon build up, but now that ive bought a few new things i dont think the new spark plugs will be as carbon fouled whenever i change them in the future. Just wanted to know by your opinions, if these things look pretty old. http://www.offroadworld.net/showowne...s=1&album=8032
Don't look all that bad. I would have used motorcraft plugs instead of autolites, but that's just me. I pulled the plugs on my 92 E150 w/351 right after I bought it in 2000, they were clean, but burnt to .065 gap.
That plug looks way too dark, and not that badly worn. Do you have a carb or EFI? Either the heat range was way to cold or you are running too rich.
Autolite and Motorcraft are NOT the same. That is a myth based on the fact that Autolite was OEM for ford in the 1950's. Honeywell MAY manufacture both to a different price point. I have had cheap Autolite platinums last half as long as Motorcraft non-platinum.
Mines efi....its a 91. It has a very strong gasy smell or something to the plug. But after i failed the emissions test, ever since ive been replacing some parts here and there. New O2 sensor, EGR valve, EGR Valve position sensor, PCV valve, breather filter, cat converter, also a k&n airfilter and just yesterday new cap/rotor and spark plugs. So hopefully ive fixed the problem or part of it at least.
