CHMSL Camera - Bed Question

For you fortunate few whom have received your trucks, curious if you would perform a quick test. I'm shopping tonneau covers, and will pull a gooseneck. Curious how far back from the front of the bed (bulkhead) the cover can rest before obscuring the pin location. For example, if I had a Bak Flip MX4, and the forward most panel was 22" wide, and 6" thick (all panels stacked on the forward most), would this block the view of the pin from the camera?

Thanks for any help that can be provided. Pics are always appreciated.

Hi Neis.

I took a few pictures for you. One is from the camera and it is on zoom. You can't make out the tape. I took two more from the outside with my phone at about the same angle as the camera. The measurement to the board is about 36". I think to do it right, I'll use a large piece of cardboard from work tomorrow. I'll lay it across the box and we'll see at what point it interferes with the hitch pucks. Let me know if you would like me to do that.

Alright guys. Here's my highly scientific results. 20"...too long, 18"...too long, 15.5"...seems about right. Maybe call it 15" and good. We should note that I used cardboard and a toolbox would have a much thicker dimension...thus changing the results a bit. At the same time, the hitch would be higher as well.

Mighty nice of you to take the time to do that!

For any other configuration you just need to know the Cab-axle and then the distance from bed to camera. I know we all hate math, but it can be calculated with basic trig....

Thanks for the research. I won't be having a tool box since I sold my Weathermaster a couple of years ago. But, here is an idea. Why not mount a mirror on the gooseneck which can be seen by the camera pointing straight down to the pin? Use the alignment in the camera until close and then watch the mirror to complete. Tool box height would be immaterial since the alignment line is on center for the y axis and the mirror could handle the x axis.

With that I have an idea, probably someone else has thought about this before but I'll just run em up to the Home Depot and grab some 3.5" PVC cut to a little taller than the box, glue some disc larger than the pipe, like a lube disc for a fifth wheel, and make my own little stand and when that smacks the toolbox, boom I'm good to drop it down

Force, do you have the LB/8' or the SB/6.75'? Is the 36" measurement to the hitch the same either way? Thanks

I have the short box and I don't know if the dimension is different between the SB and LB.
