I have a 2003 Expy EB 4x4. I picked up a set of 20" wheels from an F150 but the problem is the rear wheel spindles (I think that might be what they're called) are too long to place the Ford cap. has anyone else had this problem? are there shorter spindles i could install? can I just have the spindles cut? it looks like there's about 3 inches of extra spindle. I need maybe 1 - 1.5 inches cut off.
That's the end of the half shaft. I assume you have independent rear suspension and not a solid axle. Yes you can cut it off...I'm not sure if it will be easy as it might be hardened. If it won't cut with a sawzall then use a cut off wheel. Oh and be sure to cut it with the wheel off the vehicle, just so you don't slip and hit the rim.
I am replacing rear hub/bearing assembly on my 04 next weekend and i was a bit shocked as well by that. I gotta find a 35 or 36mm deep well now. I firmly believe they should've stuck with the traditional truck rear axle design. I just don't get the switch to an IRS and the hassle it brings. Keep it simple......
Anyway. Yes, you might go through a couple cut off wheels as i would expect that to be some hard steel but i see no harm in removing an inch. They really are way too long unless i'm missing some functional reason behind it? Can't see it though
