Unfortunately the shifter ***** on your truck arent threaded. There are splines on the lever and the **** is pressed on.
I believe the Hurst makes a replacement shifter for your truck. You might want to check into that.
Chip have you ever ordered anything from Canadian Hi-Performance? I thought it was interesting that you posted the link to their site. They are a sorta local company here and a good place to order parts from.
This is the kind of Info that I needed to know. I will call Canadian Hi-Performance to find out what they have to offer. That link was as suggestion offered by Chip in his response.
Your info also tell me how to remove the exsisting *****. I should be able to put together a simple screw-jacking device w/out too much trouble.
Thanks much Dave,
Frank
Just a little truth in advertising here...
I just love this web site. Bought my 2003 F150 4 X 4, 4.6 - 5 speed manual in April 03. I have learned quite a bit from the web site and I like to contribute when and where I can. Adding web site links, thoughts on mileage to be expected etc.
I am not an engine guy. I did install my own step bars and I don't mind messing with simple things like replacing speakers and such (way tooo many times I had the door panels off on my 94 Mazda protoge).
I have not ordered from Canadian Hi-Performance. I just Googled and found the nice .pdf and it seemed like a pretty good match with the info that Frank was after.
And though I love my truck, the 5 speed is very "notchy." Sooo, maybe (probably after the warranty has expired) it would be nice to have an aftermarket shifter installed (notice I wrote installed). So I have an interest in Frank wanting to replace the ball with the T handle.
Frank,
If you do replace the handle or decide to replace the entire shift mechanism, please continue this thread or if it is a ways down the road start a new thread to let us know the good, the bad and the ugly.
Thanks
Chip
