I was the proud owner of a 2000 3.0 ff manual 2wd Ranger with 55,000 which has been throwing out a po401 error for the last 3 weeks. I have changed the EGR valve, the sensor, cleaned the relevant openings, checked the vacuum tubes (resetting after every 'repair') but am still plagued by the same annoying check engine light about 15 miles or so after resetting the computer.
My next step is to check/change the EVR, but haven't yet as if it doesn't work I might just end up finding a cliff to drive it off.
If any one else had any similar experiences with this error code I'd appreciate any advice that doesn't involve false insurance claims for theft/fire etc!
manually operate the egr valve, at idle and see if your engine stalls.if it only slows down or no change at all, your ports are plugged. hope this helps and good luck.
