The salesman will thrown you any number you want to hear but it isnt him making the call it's manager making the call. It really depends what they say they will give you for your truck and what the dealer say the price to you on the 16 will be and what the difference is btwn the two and is it something you can live with.
I have to second the opinion of selling it privately, you'd get a hell of a lot more than what the dealer would give you. but it is finding the right buyer and then getting the cash to make it worthwhile to go after a 16.

While selling it privately might be a good choice, do overlook that is many states, your trade in value reduces your actual cost therefore you don't pay the sales tax.
Here in Tx, sales tax is 6.25%
'16 F 350 $60,000
-'15 F 350 $50,000
Sales tax = $625 on $10,000 difference
Outright: $60,000 x 6.25% = $3750 or $63750
Take away is you would need to sell your F350 for enough to cover the sales tax bite.
Just sayin...

Then of course you have the hassle of trying to sell on your own, more tire kickers than buyers.

Here in Onterrible Canada it's 13% tax on vehicles, whether you buy a new one or a used one. Tax is on the difference between trade and purchase so you need to sell private for a good number to cover the tax loss on a higher value vehicle.
I would expect the dealer will want to have the purchase difference at the 1st yr depreciation plus some profit. The 1st yr depreciation would be about 10-15% of list price. After 3 yrs the depreciation on a N.Amer vehicle is about 50-55%. Just need to look at lease residual to figure the depreciation.

Players Steve --- That is "terrible".... 13% sales tax...
Exact to exact truck without knowing the MSRP of both is tough, so I will use mine as an example. MSRP was $70k... With rebates and a discount off MSRP it was $61k in 2014. I can get $50k in trade in for my truck at a local dealer. Leaves an $11k difference, assuming I could get the same price for the 2016 - which I would expect to able to beat, since I bought the 2015 in 2014, before big rebates came out. I would go in with the expectation that I could get within $10k to go from a 2015 to a 2016. However, I have low miles in my 2015...

You can go to FORD.com and get an appraisal on your truck. I punched in my truck, '15 F 350, CC, LB, King Ranch, Dually, 15.5K and according to their "Black Book. Its worth between: $47, 455 - $53,430..

I have no idea why you would want to pay out the nose for the depreciation of the 15 to trade it for essentially the same truck (16)... You wouldn't even get braggin' rights for the current model year truck since the 17's are out now...
If I were to trade (which I may), it would be to get the '17 CC-SRW Gasser... Far different truck than what I currently have.
