When you click on links to various merchants on this site and make a purchase, this can result in this site earning a commission. Affiliate programs and affiliations include, but are not limited to, the eBay Partner Network.
You can add them later, or get your order updated to include them. I have no clue why they aren't standard on all trims.
If not ordered already I would not amend an order for such a small (but important) item. Changes pull your order out of line and you may wait substantially longer for the build.
What is the purpose of them? Trap dirt and moisture behind to encourage corrosion?
There is a lot of space behind them. They mainly keep mud, stones and ice/slush from blasting the sheet metal from underneath and the gooey stuff from adhering to every crevice and freezing there for the duration of winter.

And keep water from spraying high enough between the panels to run back down and into the bed through the bed holes in each stake pocket area (they still are there right?)

Ted: Just bought tickets for the Classic Car Museum raffle of the Mustang. I haven't been in several years. Time for an expedition down your way not only for the beautiful country but the museum as well.
I should go to that museum one of these days. Have lived here for 18 years, and have yet to make it there even though it's less than 30 minutes away.
There are some nice state parks around here if you don't mind not being able to bring the boat. Bowman Lake and Chenango Valley are 2 nearby that are both nice. Bowman being a bit more off-the-beaten path.
