Hello there, I finally bit the bullet and got the truck I've been wanting for years. I had an 88 IDI CCLB 2WD and liked it, but, the new one is the "ONE". It's a 1996 CCSB F250 with a D60 front shaft conversion and ZF 5 speed. It also has Stage 1 injectors, oversized Garrett turbo and straight pipe exhaust. She is rust free, a strong runner and a head turner so far. I've put about 300 miles on it and just finished replacing all filters and oil. I have a few issues to work out in the next month or so.
Mostly, it came with a TS 6 position chip that just decided to stop working ? It may have something to do with slamming the switch in the door. It didn't smash it but did separate the switch from the base, I put it back together and now it won't work ? I guess it defaulted back to the stock setting which I am fine with, but I can see where the tow settings could be useful when pulling my tractor or boat. The previous owner told me that it needed a custom tune for the new injectors/turbo that he never got around to doing. I'm wondering if I can do that now ?
Also, the parking brake is inop. The linkage moves under the truck, but that's as far as I've gotten into it so far.
And, there is some brown sludge in the coolant overflow bottle that I will have to address soon. Thinking it's time to pull the cooler and replace seals.
I learned a ton of info on the IDI forums back when. I'm looking forward to reading and learning more about the "ONE".
Thanks Guys for the compliments !!! I'm sure you get them all the time. There is real pride in keeping an American icon rolling.
PSU4ME- I plan on doing a flush soon. She runs cool with no loss of oil or coolant so far. I might send the oil and coolant off for analysis, when I get ready to take some bad news.
First order of business is the parking brake fixed, then install Torque Pro. I'm curious about the EGT #'s with the Stage 1's on stock tune.
Stage 1's with stock tuning should run good. As for EGT's, I never installed a gauge on my 97 with 150cc mini swamps, though I didn't have any aggressive tuning. Motor was still running strong at near 400,000 when I got rid of it.
As for the emergency brakes, there's an adjuster in the drums for the shoes.
That's the main # I was looking for, then oil n fuel pressure and realistic coolant temp. I hope I can get that out of it. Plan on installing it today.
