Being new to the 6.0 I have a question for y'all. My truck accelerates smoothly up until I hit about 20 psi or so and then takes off like a rocket once boost gets above that. Is this normal for a tuned '05 with stock turbo?
EGR delete, studs, head gaskets, new oil cooler, new HPOP, and new heads installed within last 30k miles.
I don't remember my '95 7.3 having such an abrupt hit, but it has been a couple years since I owned it and the only other diesels I've driven lately are my dad's '98 Cummins and a 2012 Duramax at work.

Well you're probably x2 the power of the 7.3, quite a it higher than the ppump 12v 5.9 and still above the stock duramax when your tuned.
Mine takes off like a rocket once the turbo spools up, I can't say I really notice a huge difference in different boost bands......not to say it can't happen but not sure I have really heard of this.
Maybe you have a unison ring with just a slight hang up that takes more boost to open up?
A few thing to check Bud, map and rubber hose , the hose could be cracked letting PSI out, while your there pull the threaded nipple out of the manifold the little hole gets clogged up make sure you get the manifold hole too,
EBP & tube same thing , just disconnect the sensor and run weed eater line through it , don't spray anything into the sensor , just make sure it's cleared
Do you have any gauges ? Post up Map , EBP, VGT, Baro
I've got gauges set up on my SCT. I'll see what readings I can get.
I'm not complaining about the power at all. It just seems to hit really hard once it hits a certain PSI. It peaks at just over 28 psi, and I'm getting 17.5-18 mpg highway commuting to work with cruise set at 70mph.
At idle warmed up MAP is 14.8 psi, EBP is 122 hg, VGT duty cycle is 0.7
Cruise set at 70: MAP 22 psi, EBP 217, VGT 0.5
Under hard acceleration I saw MAP reach 45 psi. It was hard to pay attention to the gauges and watch the road though. What kind of numbers should I be seeing?
Ok. On my way to work (40 miles) I checked the Baro/MAP/Boost and the numbers all check out. MAP-Baro=Boost
I did a little searching last night and several people said that the SCT Livewire TS doesn't read EBP correctly for some reason, so nothing to see there.

It's the Performance tune from SCT that comes with the Livewire TS. I've been wanting to get a custom tune but I haven't yet.
Hmmm may have to git in and down n dirty, short for clean up some sensors , the one I would start with is air & fuel so I'll number them
1. IAT2 ( behind the upper fuel bowl ) the plastic connection clip most likely will snap off don't worry
2. MAFF ( use only Maff cleaner , in with the air filter piping
3. Air filter( don't know how accurate the filter minder is , but check the filter or replace
4. Clean the EBP ( even though the EBP is deferred it still plays aroll in the emissions to the PCM
5. The MAP Senser itself just check for plug don't spray anything into the EBP Or MAP clean the tube and threaded nipple and Intake
6. Water separator, when was the last drain?
7. OEM fuel filter change ? You are running OEM yea
8. For got EGR Valve
I'm not a tune guy , tunes play with the Sensor Values , but the above should clean you up , by un hooking these you will set the code just erase , and see
Use carb cleaner but don't get the Electrical side of the sensor .
Oh and ware your safety glasses that stuff burns like
I'll check/clean the sensors when I get a chance. Intake and air filter are aftermarket, and I just put a brand new air filter in 3k miles ago. Both fuel filters changed with OEM 3k miles ago. EGR valve is deleted. I'm not sure that my truck has a MAF...
The truck runs great, and the response I'm getting at higher boost levels could just be how the tuning is. I'll probably stick it back to stock setting and see if it reacts differently.

What is the "light switch" effect?
Light switch is on some tunes, until you hit a certain amount of throttle the truck is fairly tame, but as soon as you hit that % of throttle, the power and boost kick in at once and it takes off like crazy.
It happens for me on my Tony Wildman Extreme tune. A lot of people have it with the Looney Tune from Quicktricks. Depends on the tune and the truck.
Not saying this is what is happening, but just some more info for you. Can't recall anybody running a canned SCT tune having it but most run custom tunes anyway.
Custom tunes are definitely on the to-do list. I'm trying to decide between Tony Wildman, Matt at Gearhead, and Innovative Diesel. I liked my tunes from PHP on my 7.3 but I'm leaning towards Tony's tunes this time.
Here's the relationship on my Dashboss between your MAP, EBP, and Baro at both KOEO and idle. As you state, keep in mind the EBP is in hg's of Mg but the conversion is correct when adjusting to psi. 17 psi equals about 34 hg's of Mg and your Baro will change due to your altitude.
