I keep my garage heated too, it's cheaper to maintain them at 50 that to bring the heat up from the 30's..natural gas is cheap too..

My garage doesn't freeze and is only heated by what passes through the walls from the house.

I insulated my shop really good, put 2 inches of Styrofoam under the cement floor and R34 in the wall and ceiling has R60..

I don't know what is in the walls of the house but the attic has 20" of blown in.
