Checking fuel pressure is so simple(screw on a gauge, start the engine, read the pressure, goose the throttle to see if pressure jumps) why not do it. But if it's running good at high RPM's the pressure is probably OK.
You can also test with a vacuum gauge and check for trouble codes. Is the check engine light on?
Based on the description I'd suspect either a vacuum leak or an ignition misfire due to spark plugs or plug wires that are worn or not seated. When's the last time this Explorer had a tune up?
I have put plugs in today.I have a set of plug wires I got to install.I know this vehicle seen a lot dust.I washed out the the engine compartment .Lots of dust and dirt.I will know more tomorrow.
Don't forget to check/replace the air filter. If it's been exposed to a lot of dust, the air filter could be very restricted. Starved for air is not much different than starved for gas since both are required to make "fuel."
New exhaust helped a lot.I also put in a new coil/distributer cap,new wires, changed oil too.Still a small miss in it.I went over vaccum lines all good.HELP...
