Question new front end

I have a 1950 F-1 panel truck. I got it down to the frame now but not sure what to use for a front suspension. I have a 9 inch rear end with power disc brakes for the rear, just not sure what to do in the front. I don't want to use the solid front axle that the truck has now. Any ideas where I should start???

Hey there axoms and welcome to FTE! Are you looking to Hot Rod it, or just keep it simple and functional?
For Hot Rodding, you may want to consider a fabbed front end from Heidts, Fatmans or God Father Customs. They are expensive, but very high tech. They can handle most high horsepower engines.
For function, you may want to consider grafting an 86' plus years Ranger front end. You can transplant a 302 easily and it'll handle that. You could probably get one fairly inexpensive, with all the steering and brake components at a salvage yard. The frame is about the same width also, so graphting shouldn't be a big issue, if you are or know a good welder.
Repair and maintenance will play a factor in your decision as well, since you don't want to be looking all over the counrty for parts if you don't have to.
Just some thoughts for you to mull over. When you get a chance, can you post some pics? PLEASE! I love new projects!!
Talk with you later....

thanks scooter, I will have some picture real soon, I was going to do a complete restore on the truck but when I added the dollors up and hit somewhere above 75 grand, I just decided to make it a fun truck for now. A eye stopping "oh wish it was mine" drivable street rod with a budget. I have a new 302 in the create for it. I will get a junk yard transmission for it. a 9 inch rear end.
I am now taking the doors off and sending them out for the metal work. All the bottoms are rusted out. going to take the floor out then send it to the sand blasters and see what is left. like I said it is the first project. so I have no idea where to start or in what order I should do things. Hey, it is fun to be a newbi at something at my age.....

Hey axoms! Great attitude buddy! I wish I was there with you!
You might want to pick up an isue of "Classic Trucks" at your local news-stand. It's a great mag and has lots of info and vendors that can assist you with questions and parts.
I know what you mean by "Expensive". I don't know how some guys can drop that kind of money into a restore. Unless they're going to use it as a daily driver, but that's doubtful.
I'll be waiting for some pics, but I'm a patient guy, so no pressure!
Have fun with your restore/build up. You can e-mail me if you need some help or have a lengthy question. Ductmaniaq@netscape.net
