I want to replace the headlights in my 2000 Excursion. I don't want the LED and odd looking things, just a replacement headlight without a cloudy exterior!.. sorry for the thread but I didn't see much help for this in the tech folders. I don't want to shine them up, just replace and be done with it.
As I'm looking around I see stock, and LED, but I am confused as to how they come? I don't think I need the amber parts, they seem fine, I just need new headlights, that are better than stock but not that much different in looks..
Rockauto.com has replacements in either the fluted or clear lens.
I'd suggest to get the NSF certified ones from TYC as they are about as close to OEM quality you are likely to find. ( I have tried many before I found these )
About $25 bucks.
I replaced the bulbs they come with with German made Phillips 9007xv also from rockauto
What throws me off is the lack of amber? The plastic is amber in the stock ones. I assume you have to put a "yellow" bulb in the new ones since there is little amber to be found?

The lower marker/turn lense is seperate on your year. You can get clear or Amber lens and like you say just use the correct bulb.
Many people convert to the 05 style 1 piece headlamp and marker combo.
IIRC, 2004 MY had the crystal headlight and turn housings. Those'll drop in without a header panel swap/modification.
I also run Phillips for bulbs, including a swap to 9005 series in the fog lights. Three years, no overheating or housing/wiring melting. HUGE difference in light on the road, which is to be expected with a 55 (or 65, can't remember) watt bulb down low.
If you go one-piece, do NOT get MKM Customs ones (had Eagle Eye stickers on the housing), they're terrible. Beam pattern sucks and is scattered everywhere, and with them aimed so there's no scatter I was lucky to see 20' past the hood.
Just ordered the headlights at a1. We'll see if the oe turn signals will look ok with the new headlamps. I don't see why not, but....
It will be fine, I had my left over stock old 2004 headlights and I installed them in my old 2000 when I first got it. I later got clear corner turn signals but ran the amber corner lights for awhile. Only owned that truck 2 months or so before it was totaled though
This is just my opinion, but I think it is the amber lens that dates the look of the truck. All a matter of taste though. I like the clear turn lens with an amber bulb.
I have been reading through the site for awhile and deliberating on this as well, I would prefer not to cut into the header panel but don't like my stock 2000 headlights either. I might go with the clear fluted like pirate says and be done with it.
