Im a member from the Slicks forum thanks to my 65 F100. But today became the owner of a well loved 78 Dent Side! (yes...Ive got an acute case of Oldforditus) Anywho, It's an F150 4x4 with a 351. The previous owner has had it for most of it's life and he treated it with lots of love. But it has been used as an Alaskan truck and shows some age. So as time and money allow, I'll be trying to freshen it up a bit and Im sure, needing the sage advice of the old salts found here.
Looks like the engine and drive train are in excellent shape. A remanned 351m was installed only about 22,000 miles ago. The truck has about 173k miles but handles like it has only about 50k. Really tight steering, nice ride and no vibes, rattles or drifting.
The body has dings and scratches but is quite well preserved overall. I'd say it's due to the Ziebart treatment it got when new. Ive had a 77 Ford Van in the past that had been Ziebarted and it was totally free of structural rust and serious holes. This old Dent Side does need fresh floor pans and a rear door lower pillar and cab corner replaced. But I think it's a welding project I can muddle thru. Bottom line is....Ziebart is fantastic stuff. If you get a chance to buy a vehicle that's been treated, grab it. You can spot them easily. Look for little dime sized plastic yellow pluggs throughout the vehichle in places like door jams and trunks. It's where they drilled to spray the tar-like coating inside the body cavities.
Congrats on your new F150, looks like it is in really, good shape, and with a freshly built engine.
Post some more pictures when you start on those floor pans and such. We really do like our pictures.
And welcome to the Dent Sides Forum
