After a couple of week rewiring my newly acquired '46 1/2 ton PU I have moved on to the engine. Tick over is ok but it won't take the accelerator, just cuts out. Looking at the engine it has the later 8BA/8CM engine and is fitted with a stromberg WW carb with the ref. "3-164" near the fuel inlet. I have no experience with this type of carb so could do with a little advice about setting up/tuning. I have looked at the main spindle and it has a small amount of slop but not excessive. Will take the carb off tomorrow and have a inspect/clean.
I would also like to know what the valve on the intake manifold is? This is not connected, it's rod is just floating around, does it make any difference what position this valve takes?
Thanks in advance

I can't help you with the WW carb, but the "valve" you are wondering about on the side of your Mercury intake is an automatic choke. The cover is missing, it shouldn't effect the running of the engine. I have some older Motors manuals, I will look and see if they have any specs on that carb.

Thanks Mark, I was concerned that the device on the inlet may require connection.
As far as the carb is concerned I have had a quick strip down and the float level was out quite a lot, but all internals are quite clean.
My main concern is that the jetting is suitable for the engine, the original use I believe was for a 5.3 litre engine.
