C8000 fuel filter

Does anyone have much experience with the 3208 cat fuel filter and delivery system? I am trying to decide if I want to use a remote prefilter/ water separator or should I stick with the factory square filter thing that is on the valve cover? Pros cons? Any info or ideas is appreciated.
