Key code door cylinder

Would anyone have any info on the code sequence stamped on the door lock cylinder on 57 f100's? Is it 1 letter followed by 3 numbers; 2 letters followed by 3 numbers, etc. or completely random?
The reason I ask is because I put a gash in it with the screwdriver when fighting with the clip during removal. I suspect there may have been a character there (letter or number).
Thanks for any insight.

Thanks Bill. This code has, (after the screwdriver gash) the letter "L" followed by 3 numbers. Might it be a car cylinder as opposed to a truck? Maybe Lincoln?

Should be FA for all FoMoCo vehicles ignition/door cylinders thru 1979. Trunk/glove box cylinder will begin with FB

In the interest of sharing information I'd thought I'd pass along what the local locksmith determined today. The door lock I pulled out of the 57 f100 with a key code stamped on it beginning with the letters FL and followed by 3 numbers was listed in the Ford section of his reference book. He spitballed the obscured "F". He then cut a key for it and it worked. I don't know if it's original or an aftermarket Ford type, but cosmetically it seems to be the right model of lock.

The ignition switch however takes a different key. So if they don't match I guess someone at sometime must have changed something.
