I've got a 1998 Lincoln Navigator with folding side view mirrors. Unfortunately, the drivers side mirror is really loose when driving, it's always shaking and it's driving me crazy. The glass is seated properly in the housing, but it seems that the housing is loose and you can just shake it with your own hands.
Any way to fix this? How is the mirror housing attached to the body? Are there any screws or something that could be tightened? Or maybe can I just glue it as I don't need it to fold?
If similar to my 99 Expy, there's 3 bolts from the mirror that come through the door at the " triangle" just in front of the window. You will see 3 rubber grommet type covers. You might have to pull that triangular cover off but it pops off.
Remove them and I believe they're an unusual 9 mm nut that just needs a snug. Simply tighten and you should be good to go.
Thanks. Just to confirm, are we talking about the inside of the car or outside? There's a triangle on the outside and inside . So are these nuts that might need to be tightened inside the car (so above the door panel), or outside?
I know, old post but anyone that has an issue with a loose folding mirror that is not loose at the door might try folding and then extending the mirrors. It's a little like rebooting a computer.
