Stuck in Park

Is there anyone out there that could tell me why upon starting my truck and applying the brake why I am not able to pull the shifter out of park? Any suggestions very welcome.

Had this happen on my old '86 F250. The actuator broke. Had to pull the steering wheel off if I remember right. What a mess. Glad I didn't do it.

If you are on a vary steep hill, that might bind the parking pawl on the gear in the output shaft.

It's on level ground, someone mentioned that there was some type of brake-shift interlock that may possibly be the problem but I don't know if an '85 F-150 would have that. '88' you're making me a little nervous with that what a mess stuff...

If the lever is not moving, make sure the key seems to function properly, if so, park it, shut it off "WITH THE PARKING BRAKE APPLIED AND BLOCK A WHEEL ON BOTH SIDES FOR SAFETY" and pry off the linkage from the trans lever and see if the trans lever on the trans will move it out of park.
if it does, it's in the column, if not, it's the trans linkage inside (easy fix) the trans.
