my brother blowed a trans line on my 90 bronco 351w e4od and kept driving it .there is a local trans shop her that is highly reptable he wants $1300 to take out rebuild with new converter and put back with warrenty.
the local junkyard has a explorer that was stoled and wrecked coming in this week with a 100,000 miles on it cant remember the model but he said that trans would work he wants $450
a buddy owes me $150 and said he would change it for another $100 and call it even.
my real question is i dont know nothing about fords on how long the trans normally last which way would you go.all comments and pros/cons welcome thanks henry
Stay away from the E4OD!!! IF you cant help yourself, go for the deal with a warranty, these trannies can be real @#$%&!'s, it helps if it's somebody else's problem!! I wouldnt trust one with 100,000 on it, you're buying trouble, and you'll probably have to rebuild it before too long. Just my opinion. Hope it helps. Good luck.
thanks i also got a line on a 84 with rebuilt motor/c6 the body is shot i think its overpriced but what would i need to change to go with a c6 instead of the e4od that i all ready have thanks
The early 90s models of E4ODs had problems. A properly rebuilt one with the upgraded parts, especially torque converter and pump can be very reliable. I tow an 8,000# trailer with my 94 460 E4OD and have 25,000miles since rebuild with all the uprated parts.
My E4OD cost about $2,500 for a complete rebuild with all the uprated parts plus some specifically for towing. At $1,300, it seems cheap, make sure you get uprated or current spec parts.
I would not buy a used tranny with 100K on it unless I needed a core for rebuild. 100K is a lot of miles for a tranny. Most will go over that but you are running the clock.
