2bbl carb

I have a 79 with a 390 in it, not orignal. It has the 2bbl setup and I have considered the edelbrock intake and 600 cfm carb. I don't really want to spend $240 for the intake and the carb is $260. i have looked at all junkyards in my area but nobody has a 4bbl intake. I thought that I would put the baddest 2bbl on since its like $220 . I want to know if its much better then the stock autolite carb. Could I pull an extra 10-20 hp from the 500cfm over stock? And i want to know how well the truck runs with a 500cfm if theres any problems or what not. I also plan on getting headers. Any opinions are appreciated.

Yes, I know for a fact that if you use headers with that carb. and a good ignition you will pick up at least 20 rear-wheel horsepower. Only problem is the mileage dips a little. Mine was jetted a little rich with 73's, I put in 71's.
