Hello Again, Gang.....
Went to start my 91 F-250 4x4 XLT Lariat this morning only to discover the key turns all the way to the start position and nothing happens. It is a manual trans, but i don't believe it's the clutch pedal switch. The ignition switch feels broken when it turns. I got a new lock cylinder and ignition switch from the boat people at Advance Auto Parts. (No offence meant to regular boat people) As it was too dark and cold to install after work, are there any tips and or tricks to this lovely tear out enough of the dash board to be irritating job? The truck has tilt wheel too; are there any issues with that?
Thanx for any help anyone could provide! BTV
From your descripton it sounds like the actuator has broken. The parts you have now won't help if this has happened. The actuator is the link between the key and the switch. If you need directions on that part let me know I've done lots of them.
Hey man sorry to hear of the problems. I had the same thing happen. I posted on here about it but no response. Email me at jrjohnson717(No Email Addresses In Posts!) and I will give you the lowdown on how to get it fixed for free!!
Thanx for responding, guys! Anxiously/desperately awaiting a bit more detail in my quest to make my F-250 at least driveable... oh, and semi-reliable would be a definate bonus. Appreciate the help...... BTV
Well...... While in the process to at least make the truck driveable, I stumbled upon the opportunity to take the piece of trim off right as the column meets the dash and clipped a pair of hemostats on the actuator rod. If ya turn the ignition to run and press down on the actuator/hemostat combination the truck fires up and runs. Will this engineering feat be reliable enough til one of you gentlemen hook me up with a more permanent fix? Really don't want to have to drive my Mustang to work cause if it snows the Stang won't make it up the driveway. :-X23 Thanx Bunches..... BTV
