Squealing in mid-front drivetrain. ???
When in 4 wheel drive, (low or high range) at any speed above 10 MPH, Im getting a loud squealing/ slight grinding noise somewhere between the T-case and the front diff.
Cant figure it out. Full of the right gear oils, U joints are new, etc
Front t-case output bearing? carrier bearing in the diff? I DONT KNOW. Im open to suggestions. WHAT COULD IT BE?
(For what its worth, it has about 350K miles on the drivetrain, and has been severely abused as a plow and farm truck.)
Thanks
I suggest you try some different things like eliminating certain components as a test.
Examples
Remove drive shaft and take it for a drive in 4 wheel with hubs freewheeling and then again with hubs locked. If no noise in either condition it is likely driveshaft or u joint related. If you still have a noise with the drive shaft out if it does it with hubs freewheeling then it might be something in the transfer case.
Check to see if the driveline is indexed properly so ujoints are in phase. Could be wrong or too tight u joints or the slip joint is loose or the output bearing in the case, the front pinion etc.
