Advance timing and MSD ignition
I plan on first checking the timing with a timing light (with the SPOUT connector unconnected, if I can figure out just which connector that is)(are we talking a vacuum or electric connector here?).
The reason I plan on checking the timing first is that I heard MSD ignitions will make timing nearly impossible if one doesn't have the right timing light (which I'm not going to buy).
As for the advancing of the timing - I read in another post that if done a little bit one could run a little higher octane gas and get a better running engine - does this sound true?
Thanks!
Set the timing to 10 BTDC, I don’t know if advancing the timing will work. i never tried it, but saw it done to a mustang in a magazine, they dynoed it, and gained a little horsepower.
It theoretically sounds like it may work, I say try it any see if you can tell a difference, but make sure you run premium or you might detonate.
I would not advance it any more then 12 BTDC I’ve heard its the sweet spot.
