So 2010 Expedition 78K miles... running great, and all the sudden the truck won't start, plenty of power. I was able to start it up by jumping the starter relay under the hood. Checked all fuses and relays... all good. Pulled codes and got this:
P1707: Transfer Case Neutral or ParkNeutral indication circuit
Battery and wrench indicator on the dash also.
SO... I can at least start it up and move it, no problem. But I have to get this fixed for the wife. The problem is I am seeing all these references to replacing the entire "transmission range sensor" up inside the transmission, on top of the valve bodies.
I've looked on fordparts.com and can't find a part number for my year Expedition. I found this part number searching some forums: AL3Z-7G276-B but all indications say this will not work on a 2010 Expedition with the 6R80.
Any suggestions? Has anyone run into this before? Maybe a quick easy fix?
Before you start chasing that code, try clearing it and seeing if it returns. It may have been triggered as a result of how you started the vehicle and might not be related to the problem.

Already tried that in multiple ways. But thanks for the suggestion.

I think your jumping the gun a bit here. Have you verified that your DTR (Digital Transmission Range) sensor is working properly and is adjusted properly? It is prolly on the driver's side of the transmission. Is the connector connected?

From what I can see, there are no wiring connections on the drivers side, only the shift linkage. The wiring harness comes into the back of the transmission on the passenger side, and it plugs into the control unit that is mounted inside the tranny.
Also the transmission works fine, if I jump the relay and start it up, I can drive it 75 mph, no issues, except for the battery and wrench warning indicator on the dash.
OK so I pulled the bottom of the tranny apart and sure enough the range sensor is mounted on the "lead frame" on top of the valve body assembly. On this model the TCM is also embedded with several other sensors on the lead frame. Ford updated this in 2010 to a new version, where the TCM is located inside the valve body assembly. So I have to get the entire valve body assembly with a new lead frame from ford. List is 1092.00 fortunately they are letting me have it for 800.00 with tax. All this for nothing more than a faulty range sensor. Ridiculous.
Problem 2 - I'm going to get the parts and put them in, but the TCM needs to be flashed. So after I install everything, I will have to have the car towed to some place to get it re-flashed.
I'm wondering though if I can un-marry one of my SCT programmers from my truck or mustang, download the stock tune off the Expedition, swap the parts, then reload the stock tune. I have SCT advantage III package, but I would need to purchase the rights to program my expedition for 100.00 bucks.
