Hi folks,
I picked up a 92 f150 with no compression in the rear drivers side hole. Thinking that I will pull the engine and remove head. If the cylinder wall looks ok, I am thinking of just honing and replacing the one piston. If things don't look good, gonna swap in a wrecking yard motor.
Any thoughts or suggestions on this little project, anything I should watch out for?
Do a leak down to see if it's valves or rings before tearing down, it'll give you an idea if your plan might work or not without relying on a visual inspection of the cylinder wall.
Started the process of pulling the engine yesterday. We have everything disconnected and are ready to come out. We decided that it will be easiest to pick and maneuver that engine with a plate that bolts on the manifold, so I am going to build one this morning.
Only other stuff we found was a crack in the exhaust manifold, and the egr line was broke in half. Thinking about trying to weld that manifold. Anyone had any luck with that?
Well the engine is out and we pulled the head off. Looks like it will be more than just a piston. The wall is scored pretty bad. Will be fine for rebuilding, but we are looking at another that we can just swap in there.
