I have a 2000 Ford Windstar that will not start. The Theft light flashes when you try to start it. I have read about jumpers being missing, causing after market chips to cause this. Will this same condition exist with the original chip installed. Ford reprogrammed it about a year ago.
So let me understand what you are saying.. You have a key that has been starting the car for the past year, and now it wont, and the theft light is flashing rapidly when you try to crank it over? A bad PATS transciever can cause this, or it may have come unplugged at the columb. Its rather simple to replace. If the chip in your key broke usually from being dropped often that would cause it too.
Or if you let the dog chew on it.. LOL
If you are trying to start with a new unprogrammed key, it needs to be programmed with a scan tool, unless you have two working keys. If you have two working keys you can cycle each of the original keys and then the new key within 5 seconds of removing the last of the original keys. If you only have one key on a 2000 model you must get it programmed. If your original key is just broken or bent up you can remove the chip from the original key and insert it into the replacement that should work too if they are designed the same. Just be sure not to break it trying.
