1984 F150 300/6 I have recently converted my r12 system to R134. I read up on it first, bought the kit and did the flush of the entire system, refilled the oil, drew a good hard vacuum, put in the r134. and the AC worked, almost. Set on max the compressor clutch cycles about 30 sec on 30 sec off continuously
it does not seem like the compressor is staying on long enough to do much good. I replaced the dryer and pressure switch and the evaporator core. If i force the compressor to run by putting a jumper in the plug for the pressure switch the compressor will stay engaged and it will get real cold. Is there a different pressure switch for r134 systems. Does anyone else have this problem?
There is an adjustment on the low pressure switch. Pull the wiring connector, and you'll see an adjustment screw in the middle. Try turning it counter-clockwise about a 1/4 turn, then check your pressure. I believe they say do not go below 18 with the pressure on R-134, and 22 is optimum.
