I chose not to modify the shroud for simplicity's sake. I can R&R the fan as an assembly in less than a minute because the lower ears are seated in saddles and only the top ears are held by nuts... just like on the Lincoln.
That's one of the reasons why I like your fab very much. I do like the idea of not messing with the shroud. There are some nice examples here and good creative thinking but I'm still leaning in this direction.

It does require some head scratching and detailed fabrication on the front end. However, what is invested up front can pay off on the back side.... To each their own.
I am fascinated by how we individually approached the issue.
Aaron-71, Thanks! I went to a metal supply store and picked up some small pieces of mild steel sheet metal and took it to a friend's shop and used there sheet metal break to bend it the proper size. I then used an air saw and trimmed the sides off and screwed it to the fan shroud using lock nuts.
Riskit, I don't think there is any advantage to making air ports with rubber because the fan size is so big the shroud doesn't really block the radiator. I drive on the HWY alot and never seen over 190 degrees with the AC on and 110 degree day in Phoenix.
Just today my wife sat in the AC for 15 min while I ran in to get take out and it was 185 when I came out and dropped to 180 when I started driving.
I also figure if the fan motor ever dies I'm going to replace the motor with a new one instead of buying a used one from the parts yard again.
It is cool seeing the different options people use. I love this fourm I have got so many ideas from it.
Thought I'd update the thread with what I tacked up tonight. If I continue to have cooling issues I'll go the full shroud route. But for now nothing to fancy (except for the PWM). If ever I need to swap the Lincoln shroud it will drop right in. I semi-boxed the left side and plan to mount the over flow tank there...one of those eBay stainless tanks like Champion sells. Cheers and thanks for the neat ideas.
