trailer camera/tpms package

Forum,

Sorry if this has been covered before. I see mention of a new 12-pin connector, but I can't figure out if this only comes if you order the trailer cam/tpms package. My understanding is these things can be purchased later, however I am not sure if the connector still comes on the truck without. If that's the case I should pay the extra and get it up front. Right now I just have a gooseneck equipment trailer which I don't need a trailer cam for, however I will have a nice RV 5er someday and wanted to use it then.

Thanks!

According to the order guide the Customer placed trailer camera is ordered as a "Factory Invoiced Accessory" and is "Shipped separately from the vehicle for dealer installation".

This indicates to me that the plug is not on the truck by default and gets installed by the dealer.

When you order the camera or camera/tpms kit it comes with a new 7pin/12 pin connector. You replace the current 7 pin/4 pin on your truck

I'm sure all the truck wiring is still there for the kits and the aftermarket will support the system in a few months.

I'm hoping for a wireless dongle. I'm betting there will be one within a few months.

Thanks for the info, guys. It may just make the most sense for me to order it so I am sure to have the right connector fit the right way.

Is that a 3" weigh safe hitch? Or does it just have a bigger pin hole?

I've been looking at this discussion in another thread, but I think it's best discussed here. The owner's manual says the add-on camera will work on trailers up to 50', and many have taken that to mean the cord is or can be extended up to 50'. I would argue that ANY 50' trailer would take somewhat more than 50' of cable/cord to reach from the truck to the appropriate location on the back of the trailer, and with some trailers it could take significantly more than 50'. I would sure like to get this lined out in stone before I order. I've got a 40' toy hauler that will take more than 50' to run under or over and allow proper location of the camera. Don't want to spend this extra money on something that isn't going to work. I also understand the BLIS trailer system will only work on about a 30' trailer. There again, sounds like I might be wasting money.

I contacted Weigh Safe a few weeks ago and they are still in development but should be on the market in the early fall. They are rushing to get out in front of the market of 3".

Thanks! If it is, and they make one that drops low enough, that very well may be the only ball mount I buy! Still might need a pintle mount, but hey, that'll be the first thing I buy with the truck!

Looks like a regular farm implement hitch pin to me. What's so special about it?
