I drove my rig out of my driveway today and got about 50 feet and It died. No sputter or anything. I towed it home and first checked the spark. Has good spark. I then checked the schrader valve on the fuel rail and depressed the pin. Fuel just dribbles out with the ignition on. When the key is turned on I can hear the High pressure pump run then shut off. I can't hear the other one (which I have never been able to hear). I'm going to tear into this thing tomarrow and just wanted to get your thoughts on the issue before I destroy any of my tools by throwing them into the walls.....
I replaced the fuel pump relay about 5 months ago. I have never had a history of problems with fuel. Can the problem be the pressure valve.
If the High pressure pump is humming on KOEO does it actually mean that it is working. And if the low pressure pump fails will the high pressure pump keep running??
Brett , Get a fuel pressure reading first with a gauge attached to the shrader valve . Remember , the fuel psi regulator only comes into play when the engine is running , If it has no vacuum supply to it , It allows the Max fuel psi the system is supposed to have . When is the last time the fuel filter was replaced ?
I hit the valve and gas just dribbled out. So there is no pressure at all.... I would think that the filter wouldn't stop it all of the sudden. Especially since it has been running fine..
I am going to take a couple stabs here, just for another opinion. Not that he is wrong, just puttin in another 2 cents. Is it cold where you live, may the gasline have frozen? And a filter can be ok, but if a good chunk loosens it will clog it solid in a jiffy. When was the last time the filter was replaced? Just tryin' to help man, probably wrong, but hey I gotta try ya know. At least for the tools sake...lol. The fuel rail will only dribble if it isn't running I think, it needs the vacuum. Also it will stay pressurized for a short time after it was running, like 20 minutes, then the pressure lets off slowly. Hope this may give new insight in anyway. Hope it all works out for you.
hey thanks for the info! Yeah your right about the fuel filter thing. Although it is not freezing here it is something to think about in other areas (totally forgot about that). I believe that the fuel rail should be pressurized when the key is turned to the on position.. Although I have never worked on the fuel system of this thing, hopefully it doesn't prove to be a challange!
With no fuel pressure at all wouldn't it probably be something else besides the pumps. I switched from rear to front tank with no results. I can hear the high pressure running. I would think that it should have atleast a little pressure if the high one failed. What else could it be besides the pumps?????
