Another ID a part???

I'm looking around the truck trying to find any anomalies and I find this in the engine bay. It is sitting on the back of the intake and a wire is running down the back of the firewall toward the transmission. Any ideas?

It looks to have two vacuum ports on it, one at one end and one at the other.

Mystery part

That may have been the actuator for the flap in the snorkel of the air filter to let heated air from the exhaust manifold during warm up or allow vacuum to the distributor .

I don't know what engine you have but, it may be for the transmission regulated spark control.

Has nothing to do with the air cleaner.

Geez Louise! OP failed to mention one word of what the hell he's working on, but the part in the pics is a 12A170 "distributor modulator valve."

There are two types: D2AZ-12A170-B & D2SZ-12A170-A as it depends on the engine size.

You are right Steve. I recognized it as being a 12A170. But until I get home I don't have the means of looking up the rest of the number. I do know that Bill and I have both posted the complete part number numerous times in the past. Maybe OP use our search engine top of our page and find one of Bill's or My listings?

Ask and ye shall receive.

Upper pic: 12A170 applications.

Lower pic: One example of the 360/390 little charmer.

So sorry, guys, My truck is a 72 360, C6 trans. If I am looking at the picture you posted correctly, this is for a truck with a manual trans?

Is there any use for it now? I have a rebuilt dizzy with a crane cams XR-i in it.

Since I had no clue what truck you had, I posted the 360/390 standard trans pic.

Here's the 360/390 C6 version.

Ok, thanks guys, so is it necessary? The truck seems to run perfectly without it. Especially now that I fabbed the missing kickdown rod and replaced the coathanger throttle cable the PO installed.
