rear window switch

hey guys i have a 91 bronco and when i got it the switch in the front didnt work, the key switch in the back works but up front i have no luck. the switch feels and sounds like it works, but that doesnt always mean it works. is there a fuse i can check?? ive looked all over and have only found one box, which is under my stearing wheel. ive looked in manuals and they say theres another box, but i can't find it.

im also curious about a wire that has a male end that fits into a female end that is located in my driverside taillight, it was unhooked when i got it but, i thought that it may have to do w/ my switch so i hooked it back up but have had no luck.

ps does anyone know a cheap place i can get the tailgate window weather stripping that goes on the tailgate, mines shot and its starting to rust at the bottom of my tailgate .... the dealership has it for likr 40-50 buscks but im curious if anyone knows a cheaper solution for a poor college kid that is barely pain for gass on this tank

As far as the wire? dont know! as far as the switch get a test light or volt meter check your wireing at the switch, just cuz it feels okay dosent mean it is, it can still have a bad contact. as far as weather striping, www.jcwhitney.com they got all that kinda stuff. DW

The two circuits for the tailgate glass are protected by circuit breakers in the dashboard fuse panel. Circuits 12 and 14 are the circuit breakers. Circuit breaker 12 should be the breaker for the dashborad switch. However, if the breaker is not working then the shift control module shouldn't be working either. The most likely culprit is the switch itself. It may "sound" fine but unless you can verify that the contacts are actually allowing electricity through, I'd start there.

I had the same problem on my 88. The tailgate key switch would work, but the front switch only would work "down" but not "up". I replaced the switch and now it works correctly. The key switch goes bad quite often.

8esertBronco, I had the same problem. I just used some rubbing alcohol and cleaned the contacts. It works great now.

Before buying a new part trying cleaning the contacts.

I have the same problem with the upfront switch not working, but the key in the back does. I tried to remove the front panel to access the switch this weekend, but i didn't have the right tool to remove the headlight ****. The haynes manual described a hook tool to remove it. Is that a common tool I can get at a hardware store or do I have to go to an autoparts store? I have replaced the fuses and that did nothing so I was going to check the switch next. Any suggestions?

On my 88 there is a little button behind the switch, but if you have the "later model" you might be able to make a tool from a heavy paper clip or something.

if u take the cover off the fuse panel under the dash and turn your lights on, and pull the panel off (panel where the wiper/light/window switch is located) u can get a screw driver in there, u can reach under were the fuse panel is and turn the screw driver and keep it steady from the top .... and then drop your wires out under the dash so u can get the switch out. i found out that my switch problem was not where the wire4s met the switch but in the switch itself ... but the rubbing alcohole worked pretty good.

o yeah dont forget to turn out your lights ... window doesnt work w/ a dead battery
