Band-aid or possible solution?

My story thus far:

I wanted the best SUV that the best automobile company ever produced.
I could afford a 2wd 5.4
I purchased a 2wd 5.4
I was happy and all was right in the world

I wanted a bigger better one
We found me a 4wd 6.8
It was faster, sat higher, and had more aftermarket support
I was happy and again all was right in the world

I grew tired of my truck
It was no longer fast enough and there were no longer any cheap upgrades left to buy
It wasn't high enough even with new springs
It got gas mileage comparable to some of the vehicles I drove in the Army
I was sad and the world seemed to spin a bit slower

I wanted a diesel. A diesel would fix all of my problems and then some. The only issue would be money. While looking at excursion parts I ran across a Kenne Bell SC though and thought it might be what I need to make me fall back in love with my truck.

Here's what I've found:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/152167824047?ul_noapp=true
So do you think this would help at all or do you think I'm just throwing good money after bad?

FYI I'm really leaning toward it being just a band-aid

There's another thread on here with someone throwing that or similar setup on his rig. Read up on it, and be discouraged from the bandaid fix.

Save up and buy what will make you happy. And anything that doesn't have glow plugs will NOT be happy.

This may come as bit of a shock from me (one of the biggest V-10 cheerleaders around here ) but I think if that's where your head is at, then there is no other option but to save your pennies and then buy a diesel when you can.
If I was to shop (which I have no interest in) for a Kenne Bell supercharger, I wouldn't be too interested in that incomplete unit.

Man I wish I could find a 2wd 5.4 cheap !

I have such a cool build in mind if I could ever pick one up at the right price.

However my advise would be do not let "Things" determine your happiness, nothing wrong with wanting a thing, but things are not what bring lasting happiness.

If you want a diesel, get your ducks in a row and be ready to pull the trigger the moment the right one turns up. The hunt for the right one can be more fun then actually finding the right one.

That's what has led me to not want to do it

Hi Apoc, just gonna throw my 2 cents in. I believe you suffer from upgraditis, many of us have this to deal with. I agree, the diesel is a great vehicle but so is the 5.4 and 6.8. Based on your trend described above, I believe also the diesel will be a bandaid and you will eventually grow tired of it.

One way to deal with this is to keep your Ex in great condition, moderately modded so you can be proud and then use it and let it be the workhorse it is designed to be. To treat your upgraditis, find a suitable vehicle where mods are cheap, perhaps even a motorcycle and with which you can go crazy and make your own creation no one else have duplicated.

Cheers!

Life is too short to be sad about stuff like this. Focus on what's important in your life...

lol, I was going to say just keep the excursion you have well maintained and reliable and built a rat rod to satisfy your never ending need to change and modify a vehicle.

With the excursion the more money you spend on it and mod it the less they will be worth. With a rat rod....the less you spend on it the more valuable they become.

Yup, 2500-3000 would be the right price for the project I have in mind.
Too bad I am in CA. The hot shot cost would eat heavily into the project budget.
