That would be south Florida... But the intense heat and humidity is hell. I did the opposite, I drove until I found houses and businesses without Air Conditioning and then stopped... That ended up being in Alaska.
I agree. You can always put more clothes on as is gets colder. However, you can only take off so many clothes as it get hotter before people start talking. I prefer the Midwest where we get a mixture of both.
That would be my preference as well Dak. Just biding our time until we move to Maine.
We (S.O. and I) are actually job hunting with the goal of moving to Maine in June. Cooler climate + ocean and not a long drive to mountains / wilderness / Boston.

Maine is home for us. We just don't live there yet...LOL.

You can have this oppressive Midwest heat and humidity we are having here in MO right now. I'd prefer Montana myself.

Down East in Maine is a beautiful wild state. Love it up there but I would probably eat the ocean out of lobstas. Made it as far as Acadia 2 years ago. Next trip up that way will be to New Brunswick with many stops along the way. Hope you find what you are looking for there!

Well if people start to talk they are in the wrong crowd. I detest the NY politics, taxes and micro regulation but I am not ready to give up 4 great seasons and an abundance of fresh water. Going out for King Salmon on Friday (Lake Ontario) and maybe Landlocked and Steelhead one day next week. (Seneca Lake). Working on deer plots and waiting for at least a VIN.

I think I said that one snowstorm when I was broken down with a third repair in a week long storm. No garage, losing tools in the snow on the dirt driveway and the phone ringing off the hook about too much snow in their driveway. Everything got fixed, everyone got cleared out and I picked up the last of my tools in the spring.
We had a house in Lake Wales, FL. 3 major hurricanes centered on the house in less than 4 months. Sold what was left for more than it was worth whole. You can keep Florida.
Fl is where I'm going asap which prob won't be for another 10 yrs. I know the heat is tough in the summer, but I'm sick of the cold here in NY in the winters. The way I look at it is now I feel like I'm stuck indoors 3-4 mos a yr because of the cold. I'd rather be down there and stuck indoors for 3 mos in the a/c because of the heat and be walking around in shorts and flip flops the rest of the year! I'm also a boater, so that is a boaters paradise. My cousin is in Stuart, and when not working, he's on the water. There is so much to do by boat it's insane. The bamahas is a 2hr trip by boat. Every year we head down for either the 4th or Memorial Day and head over to the Bahamas for a few days. He goes over for the weekend all the time. Fishing is insane!! Many people do a trip to the Bahamas maybe once in their life, but Fl residents have it in their backyard! As far as hurricanes....newer homes are built for them and have no problems getting through it. The weather has had impact on just about every state in the country. NY has had its fair share of hurricanes and destruction too, so again, I'll deal with it!!

The guys in the 6.7 section have started to do an annual truck/RV get together. This year we all got together in Dells WI. We had a vote while there (about 30 folks in all) and next year I am to plan it in Maine. We are doing a campground just outside Bar Harbor. Most of the guys have never been to Maine and I think they will really enjoy it. So far, we have about 7 RV sites booked. We also have guys not wanting to bring RV's or guys without one that will rent a cabin or stay at the motel across the street. Should be a blast again.
As for us, we spend much of our vacation time in Maine. My wife was born there and still has family there along the 201 corridor in the western mountains. As much as we and everyone else love Downeast, we also love being in the mountains in no mans land from Bingham to Jackman to Rangeley to Greenville. We previously ATVed and rode snowmobiles on their huge interconnected trail system but have moved on to road vehicles and use our CanAm Spyders out of our toyhauler to explore and take in the views. Our favorite part about being there is it is so sparsely populated. Whether off road on the trails or exploring the country roads, you see very few people and views everywhere...
We used to argue about which area we'd move to. The wife said the coast and visit the mountains. I said the mountains and visit the coast. I think she will win when the time comes. It's all good either way.

I hear you about the fishing and water, that is inviting. My best friend just bought a place on Marco Island and is getting a boat this fall. I invested in a 2500 sq ft shop out of the proceeds from selling our Florida house. My camper stays inside and I can build anything looking out 15 ft of glass over looking a pond and through the pines and spruce in warmth and is ready for a Florida trip anytime. Or anywhere else. Wheels are my answer to anywhere I want to be. Our house in NY is 190 years old. Our house in Florida was 25.

Here is a shot from our 2013 trip of Bar Harbor from Cadillac Summit for those who don't know Maine. And the second photo is of a Maine Eastern snowplow with the flangers stowed, just to keep this thread on track.
