Design Change

I wonder how long they will keep 2017 design before they give it an update. I guess theres no way of knowing. I remember hearing rumors a while back that ford will do another change in 2019 to comply with emission laws or something like that. Probably just rumors though. I just would hate to spend this kind of money just to have my truck look "old" in a year or two if they change it up. I like buying the first year of new bodystyles so 5 -6 yrs later it still looks like the new ones, until they eventually update them. 2011- current seems like a fairly long run, but i hope it wont be like in 2008 when they only ran for 2 yrs. Like i said, no way of knowing, just have to take a chance i guess.

My understanding is that the 6.7 already meets the next gen emissions requirements.

You can't chase the next best thing or you will never buy anything. There is always something better around the corner.

I agree. Im probably going to get one anyway, i would just rather it stays this way a while. Wouldnt be a big deal if i traded in every 3 or 4 yrs like a lot of people i know, but i plan on keeping it a lot longer. It seems like just yesterday when my dad bought the new gm bodystyle, and now theyve already changed them up again and now his looks like old news. lol

yep, that would be rough, but im sure those folks knew a change was coming after so long. most folks dont care about that anyway, they just want a good deal on a proven design. Cant blame them for that, but i feel like if im going all out on a new one, it might as well be the latest and greatest.

I am exactly the same way. I don't sweat the 1st year bugs and always try and buy right out of the shoot when a new model lands. Then it is current for the longest time possible.

other than 08 -2010, ford has been good about letting the sd designs run a while. 99-2007, 2011-2016. Lets hope the 17 will be the same.

As someone who has always kept vehicles a long time it will be a pleasure to be a new truck and new model all at the same time. And since these are essentially the same mechanically as the past few years the little tweaks being done should be just fine without compromise.

i agree, and most of the time the little bugs in the new models are simple and annoying but nothing major. The only gripe i have with the 17's is that led headlights arent standard on the lariat. I guess they are if you want to pay 6 grand for the package.

Next full redesign will probably much quicker that this one (17 1/2 years!) now that the SD shares the cab with the F150. I would expect 5-7 years next time. I can't believe they
milked the existing SD cab for almost two decades! The F150 was all new 3 times in the life of the last SD.

When you have a good thing going sometimes it's best not to mess with it until you have to.

If anything, they might give it a refresh with the headlights or grill, but hopefully it will be a while before a major change. Im guessing when the f150 changes, the sd will wait a couple years before it follows.

Now that the SD has adopted the F-150 cab, I wonder if it stay in lockstep with the F-150's body changes.

My guess is that it will stay about 2 years behind, just like now. This helps on resources because they can focus on one truck at a time.
