Pointless Pyro question...

OK, this is just academic at this point, but one of the first things I did after buying the truck was order a MaxTow Dual View 2200 Degree Pyro. After a year or so of reading and learning I have to ask. What in the hell kind of engine uses a 2200 degree pyro? I understand that you are in serious danger of melting crap on the 7.3 at 1300 or above, do other diesels run that much hotter? (as an aside, I like the DualView Pyro a lot, very solid gauge).
Commence to educating me please!

Doesn't really matter the range so much as the time spent up there. I've had my 1800° pyro pegged many a time, but never for longer than 25-30 seconds. Engine still runs like a top. For all I know, I've been to 2200 or higher, speculation based entirely on how fast the needle on my existing pyro was moving.

Krazee Matt,
OK, I knew that 1300 was sort of a soft limit but I didn't know that you could get them up to 1500 to 1800 without instantly hosing something up, good info, thanks brother. Also, your mod list looks a lot like what I want mine to look like. When you went to the 35s did you do any re-gearing? What's your tach running at 70 MPH and did the 35s hose up your fuel economy too bad? Also-also, LMAO at StayPuft. My kids call my Ex "The Short Bus", which, considering that they are riding in. Well, it kind of tells you everything you need to know about my kids...

No worries man, I really beat on mine hard so I tend to explore the upper realms of durability for a lot of components. Stay Puft came around from the first distance freeway trip I took in it. Squishy, wallowing all over the place, and cushy as all get out. Since it was white and tan, kinda like a campfire'd marshmallow, Stay Puft seemed the logical name

When I went to 35's, I deliberately did not regear. One of the reasons for going to bigger tires was to get better freeway mileage, and since a spring swap was on the list it killed two birds with one stone. Around town, the 7.3 has more than enough grunt to not give a flying crap about the 35's. On the freeway, they lowered my cruising RPM by a good 600 or so. I used to cruise 67-ish at 2000rpm, now I can run 76mph @ 2000.

Honestly the main thing that's hosed my fuel economy has been the performance mods, the big injectors really pushed it down by several MPG. I am hoping once I go to the properly paired turbo (T4 swap, many monies) I will recoup some MPG, as right now I average around 13.5-14.5 mixed driving. To be fair however, there isn't a single day when I drive it that it doesn't see WOT at least twice, so that may have something to do with it It's hard to behave yourself when you can stay door to door with an Evo.

True thing.
It's hard not to play with the power when you got it. The truck as it sits will run low 7's 0-60, with just a Superchips Flashpaq, a Tymar and an AIH delete. I have a 3'1/2" downpipe that I got on the cheap that I'm going to plumb into a 4" exhaust. Maybe go with a dieselsite adrenaline HPOP . At some point I'd like to go with a GTP38R and a mild injector upgrade. I'm more about making good solid power with good fuel economy. Believe me, I would love to get crazy with the engine but the Ex does a lot of family hauling and, we use it to tow our 30' TT so yeah, I'd rather pull 14 MPG towing and 20 in mixed than have 500 and 1000. But

I'd swing you towards the T500 over the Adrenaline, seen more than one Adrenaline come apart.

I'm sprinting in the low 5 sec range to 60, still haven't gotten any good 1/4 runs but it'll top out nudging 135 on the GPS. Need to get springs in before I do that again for sure. The 38R is solid, maybe if the timing is right I'll be able to put you on to a good setup for a good price

Get some solid tunes in it asap, they'll transform your rig and keep things happy and safe. I'm a huge pusher of Gearhead, especially as they'll 'live' tune over email if you can send proper data logging for them to work with.

It's our family hauler too, and my daily as well.
