My friend's 03 7.3 350 flat bed with 190k runs great but some times it will hold low gear for longer than usual no check engine light then let up on the petal and it shifts and maybe next time shifts correct. Any ideals?

Mine will do that (when towing more so) when cold. Once it warms up it is much better. Jwvb helps a lot. Tightened up shifts on my truck.

Clean the EBP tube from the passenger exhaust manifold to the sensor.
